background

The CSULB College of Engineering's (COE) mission is to develop innovators who design and implement practical solutions to meet the societal challenges of today and tomorrow. With undergraduate and graduate programs and an interdisciplinary Ph.D., the College of Engineering is known for offering hands-on practical learning experiences to supplement theoretical foundations.

COE strives to change the world through the engineering excellence of their faculty, students, and alumni, transforming communities through inclusive solutions to challenges faced by society, as well as the social mobility afforded by a degree in engineering, construction management, or computer science.

client problem

Before bringing StickyNote Creative on as a design partner, COE relied on internal staff to design collateral using DIY design and pre-existing templates.

As with every busy college, their academic year is full of more than classwork and COE found themselves in need of a go-to designer that could elevate their recruitment and marketing materials while bringing a cohesive and coherent aesthetic that could be carried over.

COE was in need of a digital fact sheet that provided a bird’s eye view of the College, its six departments, highlighting their programming and the features that would attract additional students, staff and faculty.

In the 2021-22 academic year, the COE underwent a strategic planning process which resulted in the COE BEACH 2023 Action Plan. The document was a critical component of their efforts, outlining the actions they intended to take as a college to support the university strategic plan, BEACH 2030.

story of impact

COE’s strategic planning work culminated in charting five main strategic priorities and identified the activities it intended to pursue to align with the university’s future. The Action Plan was printed for distribution to key college partners, as well as published online.

“Wow, Bunmi! You fit so much great information on those two sheets.”

–N. Forrest Boggs

what we did

With lots of statistics, rankings, charts and lists it made sense to lean heavily on an infographic style design fact sheet to help depict all the important information in a way that was easy to scan and process.

Shortly after our work on the fact sheet, we partnered with the CSULB College of Engineering again to produce a professional and visually compelling Action Plan publication taking their verbose Word doc and transforming it into a beautiful report that reflected their work and brand.

This 24-page report was a delicate balance of incorporating critical information with the college’s beautiful photographs of students, staff and faculty and made complete by weaving in simple, easy to understand charts, graphs and tables.

standout features

“Bunmi's expert eye for design – the first draft was near perfect.”

–Jinny Rhee, Dean of Engineering, California State University at Long Beach
