StickyNote Creative worked diligently to find a design solution that would take the dense content of a course catalog and turn it into something beautiful, memorable and easy to read and understand.

Osher Lifelong Learner Institute at UVA is a lifelong learning program hosted at its partner university, the University of Virginia.
OLLI at UVA is a membership-based community that provides volunteer opportunities, courses & classes, events & outings for its members.
They provide courses that interest older adults, particularly those who have retired who find a fulfillment in learning for the joy of learning – without examinations or grades – and keeping in touch with a larger world.
client problem
In the wake of the COVID-19, OLLI at UVA was looking for a nimble way to help the organization get up to speed and ready for their fall registration.
Everything about the process was new for its members because of the pandemic-induced shift to online classes. OLLI wanted to create a new, slimmed down, digital-version of the catalog to publish online, with active hyperlinks for it’s members to access.
OLLI saw an ideal opportunity to refresh the design aesthetic.

With great consideration regarding the target audience – mainly made up of older adults – and with OLLI at UVA’s desire to overhaul the course catalog “look and feel” - make it more modern, StickyNote Creative worked diligently to find a design solution that would take the dense content of a course catalog and turn it into something beautiful, memorable and easy to read and understand.

what we did
We sought to develop a visual solution that helped OLLI at UVA move away from the dated, traditional, more formal and academic-looking catalog to a sleeker, cleaner, and fresher design.
Incorporating lots of white space and ensuring high readability (think larger text and clean, easy to read fonts) we wanted to make sure their target demographic could easily engage with the catalog online and quickly find what they were looking for.
Because of OLLI at UVA’s partnership with the University of Virginia, the color palette for the catalog branding was curated directly from the university branding
Having a refreshed catalog design that makes it easy for members to find their desired courses or instructors or other pertinent information encourages them to remain engaged and feel connected to the organization as a whole.
Over the years we’ve seen many iterations of this course catalog, and together, we continue to build upon the foundation and make refinements that yield a better result.
As a design partner, we do our best to adapt to our clients’ needs and the needs of their constituents.
